At the Ab geht die Lutzi! festival 2024, we at haut[nah] were responsible for the entire live production for the main stage – using six cameras, live directing, and a large LED screen right next to the stage. In this post, we give you a look behind the scenes: from camera setups and stage changes to chaotic weather.

LED wall and live feed – right in the heart of the festival

To ensure the action on stage was visible to all attendees, we fed a multi-camera live feed to the LED wall. Our setup consisted of:

• 2 manned cameras for flexible angles
• 1 mobile camera for spontaneous shots, such as close-ups of the drummer
• 3 static cameras for fixed wide shots and stage overviews

All signals converged in the control room, where the final feed was mixed live and output to the LED wall. This allowed us to showcase the stage action on a grand scale and create unforgettable moments.

Stage changes between acts: planning is everything

‍

A festival is dynamic – and so were we. Between artist sets, we adjusted several camera positions to meet individual requirements. This meant precise changeover phases, seamless team communication, and a control room that could react flexibly at any moment.

Severe weather as a stress test for technology and team

‍

A sudden storm put our production to an additional test. Within minutes, everything was soaked: cables, equipment, cameras – nothing was spared. But our team stayed focused: with a Plan B, improvisation, and a great team spirit, we were able to get the production back up and running after just one hour, without the image on the LED wall ever cutting out.

9 people, one production, full performance

‍

A total of nine team members from haut[nah] were on duty – from camera and directing to technical support and coordination. The result: a seamless live production that offered the audience on-site a high-quality festival experience.
